What is a HMO?
A House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a property rented out by at least 3 people who are not from 1 ‘household’ (for example a family) but share facilities like the bathroom and kitchen. It’s sometimes called a ‘house share’.
Purpose
Following a full conversion of this property to a HMO, building control required fire suppression to be installed to the ground floor communal living area in order to satisfy building regulations.
Approach
Automist® was chosen as the preferred water mist system to protect the ground floor escape route of this property due to its ease to retrofit and intelligent two-stage fire verification.
The compact Automist® pump was installed in the kitchen sink unit and a single wall-mounted spray head was installed to the ground floor open plan communal area and walls were made good after installation.
Outcome
Firemist installed this Automist® system as a full package installation, removing the need for any other trades to attend the site as part of the water mist system installation.
The installation took just one day to complete and satisfies the requirements of building control for this three-storey property.
