Automist® installation to support the loft Conversion of an end-terrace property in Oldbury, Birmingham.
Requirement
To satisfy building regulations due to the lack of a fire protected escape route.
Purpose
The customer approached Firemist to develop a solution for their property that would allow their loft to be converted to a habitable space. In accordance with building regulations, the building control officer had specified the construction or the retention of fire- resistant compartments.
In this case study, the stairs entered into the ground floor living room. As a result, building regulations require fire suppression to protect the escape route.
Approach
Working with the customer, it was identified that Automist® would be suitable for the property. Just a single Automist® spray head within the living room would provide the protection required under building regulations. This would enable the conversion of the loft to a habitable space.
This solution was favourable to both the customer and the building control officer. The building control officer has since recommended this approach in other similar circumstances.
Outcome
As with most of the projects completed by Firemist, the customer chose a complete package installation including all electrical and plumbing requirements. The customer was reassured that Firemist would handle all aspects of the installation, allowing them to focus on their loft conversion project.
