The Lodge Trust CIO manages a 20-acre site in the beautiful Rutland village of Market Overton in central England. The Trust provides residential care for adults with learning disabilities, with this particular scheme comprising of four houses and 12 independent living flats for a total of 30 residents.
A fire risk assessment recommended additional control measures in some rooms to protect residents whose age and mobility needs had changed since the buildings were first constructed. Following some research into suitable solutions, The Lodge contacted Plumis and requested an on-site demonstration of Automist – the company’s watermist suppression system. Staff and residents were impressed with the effectiveness of the system and its discreet profile.
Following a site survey, Fire Mist submitted a quotation for a full package Automist® installation including all electrical and plumbing requirements.
To minimise disruption, the wall-mounted Automist® spray heads were installed using fire-resistant trunking and connected to hard-wired ceiling mounted smoke detectors. The compact Automist® pumps provide an activation signal to alert the existing fire alarm system and were installed in a plant room and a storeroom.
Fire Mist prepared many of the installation materials before arriving on-site, to minimise disruption to residents living at the Lodge Trust and to keep installation time to a minimum.
In total, The Automist® systems installed at The Lodge Trust consisted of 13 intelligent wall-mounted spray heads and five Automist pumps and controllers.
The CEO of The Lodge Trust commended Firemist for “the respect and care shown to the residents, recognising that it was their homes and being willing to flex with installation tasks to fit around their care needs and other schedules.
“It was a long an protracted project because of Covid and everyone (at The Lodge Trust) felt that Fire Mist handled it brilliantly.
“Thank you for an excellent job well done!”
About Automist
Automist® is an innovative, intelligent water mist fire suppression system. When signalled by a ceiling-mounted smoke detector, the modern wall-mounted spray head uses a thermal imaging sensor to perform a room scan and measure the temperature across the room. Automist® algorithms have been developed from extensive fire scenario testing to identify the heat signature of a fire. If a fire is present, the wall-mounted spray head will activate the Automist® pump and dispense a blade of water mist directly at the fire. The water mist is drawn into the seat of the fire, cooling and starving the fire of oxygen.
The Automist® system controller will store the data gathered from a room scan, this data can be downloaded by a Plumis approved installer and can be used for the analysis of the fire for investigation and insurance purposes. Continuous fire testing by Plumis at FPA fire laboratories allows the algorithms to be updated to further develop the system performance.
