What is a Fire Mist system?
What is a Fire Mist System?
A water mist fire suppression system uses very fine water sprays (i.e. water mist) to control, suppress, or extinguish a fire. Small water droplets allow the water mist to:
- Cool the flame and gases through evaporation;
- Displace oxygen through evaporation;
- Reduce radiant heat through the small droplets.
Fire suppression effectiveness is determined by the spray characteristics of a water mist system, such as the distribution of droplets, the mist density and the spray dynamics.
The following benefits have been identified when comparing the use of water mist fire suppression to gaseous agents and traditional sprinkler systems:
- Very early activation;
- Highly effective at suppressing a wide range of fires;
- Minimal water damage;
- Uses 90% less water than traditional sprinklers
- Dry pipe system, posing no risk of legionella.
