Required for normal assembly of microtubules during apoptosis. Required for chromatin and or kinetochore dependent microtubule nucleation. Mediates AURKA localization to spindle microtubules. Activates AURKA by promoting its autophosphorylation at Thr 288 and protects this residue against dephosphorylation.
